SPACE researchers presented their work at SASE Conference 2021 (online)

Laura Porak presented her recent paper “Governing the Ungovernable. Recontextualizations of “Competition” in European Policy Discourse” at this years Annual Conference of the Society for the Advancement of Socioeconomics (SASE). Her paper provides an analysis of the partly contradictory stances of the political sovereign towards governing competition both at domestic and global level. For this purpose a Critical Discourse Analysis and a re-construction of the in discourse prevailing economic imaginary with special emphasis on competition and competitiveness were conducted. Eventually, the discursive strategies, that are used to legitimize the contradictory stances, were analyzed. The author enjoyed the discussion about theorizing competition in her session “Governing and Theorizing Competition and Performance”.
