SPACE researchers presented their work at ESA Conference 2021
Carina Altreiter and Katharina Litschauer presented their work “Strategies of Capital Accumulation in Times of Land Scarcity. A Field Perspective on Social Housing Construction in Vienna” at the European Sociological Association Conference 2021. Following Bourdieu, they apply a field perspective to give a more nuanced account of the main producers of social housing today, namely limited-profit housing associations. Depending on the configuration of different capital forms, companies hold different field positions and follow different strategies to get access to building plots in times of rising land prices and intensified competition for city-owned land.
The researchers benefitted from fruitful discussions at the conference.
