SPACE researchers joined a media talk on the “precarious conditions of young researchers”

SPACE project leaders Carina Altreiter and Stephan Pühringer joined a media talk on Wednesday, 15.12.2021 on the topic on “precarious conditions of young researchers” organised by the Science Network “Discourse” (Diskurs – Wissenschaftsnetz).

The purpose of the media discussion was the amendment to the Austrian University Act in spring 2021. The media talk offers insights into the current situation of temporary academic staff at Austrian universities and explains the amendment and its consequences. Politics has transferred the responsibility to universities to develop “de-precarising (career) models”. There is an opportunity here to set the course for a continuation of career opportunities for excellent scientists in research and teaching in Austria, to describe the current precarious working and living conditions and thus also to strengthen Austria as a location for science. For more information please visit the Network’s official website.

Several media channels in Austria reported on this event, among them the online edition of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation ORF science.orf.at and the Austrian Newspaper der Standard. The full video of the media talk is available to watch and listen to below (German only).
